First Time with Dentures?
Proper denture care is vital for longevity and maintaining oral health. Let’s guide you through the essentials to ensure your smile stays bright and healthy.
You have spent a lot to get your dentures, look after them to keep on smiling!
Remember; it’s not just any smile… it’s your smile.
The Do’s
Handle with Care
Always treat your dentures gently. Avoid sharp objects and use a denture-specific toothbrush for cleaning. If one isn’t available, opt for a soft-bristled toothbrush. When cleaning, use denture paste, not regular toothpaste, as the latter can be abrasive. To protect them, lay your dentures on a soft cloth when not in use.
Rinse, Clean and Repeat
An important part of denture care is to make sure you clean your dentures at least once daily and after meals. Rinse with lukewarm water first, then brush with denture toothpaste. Make this a daily routine.
Soak overnight
Soak your dentures in a mild dental soaking solution or water overnight. This will prevent them drying out, becoming brittle and losing their shape. Remember to rinse them before putting them back in your mouth.
The Don’ts
No sharp objects
Never use sharp instruments on your dentures. The material is delicate and can be damaged.
Steer Clear of Household Chemicals
Products like bleach or peroxide can damage dentures. At a pinch, you can use dishwasher soap with warm water, but it’s only a temporary solution.
Say No To Whitening
Dentures don’t respond to traditional whitening toothpastes or strips. For best results, use a denture solution for soaking overnight and brush lightly in the morning.
