Learn about the step-by-step process of achieving a secure and stable smile using modern dental implant technology.

What are implant-retained dentures?

Implant-retained dentures are similar to normal dentures. However, instead of relying on the plate to create suction and to stay in, they clip onto implants in your jaw.

Benefits of Implant-Retained Dentures

Implant-retained dentures are an attractive option when you need a full denture and want the ultimate fit and no palate.  As they do not have a palate they are also more comfortable to wear and are a good solution for people with strong gag reflexes.

How long does the implant process take?

Getting your implant-retained denture can take 3-6 months. While we can make the denture far quicker than that, it is vital that your gums are given time to heal. The good news is that during the healing period we can provide you with a temporary denture that will allow you to eat and smile with confidence until such time as your implant-retained denture can be worn.

The stages for Implant-Retained Dentures?

Our expertly trained clinical dental technicians will guide you through the entire process of receiving an implant-retained denture. It is important to us that you understand what we are doing so that at every stage of your treatment we can include you in the decision making process.

Denture Consultation

During your denture consultation the clinician will assess whether an implant-retained denture is viable for you and explain the process and any other options that may be suitable. This will include understanding the pros and cons of the treatment, the likely outcome as well as pricing and payment options.

Making your temporary denture

Before the day on which the dentist will implant the screws into your jaw your clinician will make your temporary denture. This will be ready for you on the day of implantation.

Implant placement and Implant Integration

Implant placement is a minor procedure that can be done with local anaesthetic. During this procedure the dentist will place small implant screws into your jaw. Immediately after, the dentist will fit your temporary dentures which you can go home with.

You will use your temporary dentures while the bone in your jaw strengthens around the dental implants and your gums heal. This can take up to 3 months, but you should feel little or no pain.

Making your Implant-Retained Denture

As for a normal denture, the clinician will take impressions of your jaw, ensure technical aspects such as the the bite are correct and that you are happy with the look and feel of your denture.

Once your jaw has healed you will be ready for us to fit your implant-retained dentures. We manufacture these in our on-site laboratory using state-of-the-art machinery and the highest quality materials. This allows us to provide the best possible fit and ensure that your teeth and gums are not only stable and secure, but look good and enhance your smile.

After Treatment

Once your denture is fitted, your clinician will explain how to care for them and provide you with an information booklet which has all the information you need. Caring for your implant-retained denture is the same as caring for a normal denture, however you will have the added benefit of greater stability and significantly less movement compared to a normal denture.

After a settling in period of about 8 weeks, your clinician will meet with you to ensure that everything is fine and to check how you are getting along with your new implant-retained dentures.
